This healthcare organization was looking for a benefits administrator that could respond to two needs: 1) retain more of its health care claims payments in house by encouraging its employees to utilize its own healthcare facilities and thereby reduce payments to competitor facilities; 2) provide a higher level of customer service support to the employees covered by the employer-sponsored health and welfare benefit plans.

CWIBenefits responded by developing a custom Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) health plan option that provided a higher “in-network” benefit when employer-owned facilities and services were used by one of its own covered employees. CWIBenefits administered and fully supported the EPO that consisted of providers and facilities owned and/or managed by the client. As a result, the percent of overall health plan claims payments retained by the client substantially increased while the amount paid out to competing providers and facilities significantly decreased.

CWIBenefits was able to respond to the second need by using its comprehensive contact center that could be accessed by the employees using toll-free land-lines, email and fax. CWIBenefits’ CSRs were trained to respond to benefits-related questions about the employer-sponsored health, dental and vision plans, as well as the life, STD and LTD disability insurance benefits. Additionally, CWIBenefits developed, implemented and supported an integrated enrollment platform for these benefits that included Web, IVR and paper enrollment options. Subsequently similarly supported enrollments for work-site benefits like voluntary cancer, long-term care, pet care and legal services were also added. As a result, the number of employee service requests directed to the benefits department were significantly reduced, thereby freeing valuable resources that could be redirected to address other needs within the HR department.

RESULT: The healthcare organization experienced dependable employee support and cost savings through a custom designed EPO plan.
